One of our favorite Irish expressions, this Irish potato bread recipe makes a regular appearance on our dinner table. Potato bread is a filling and rich type of Irish bread that is great to serve at parties with various dips or along with dinner or just about any gathering.
This bread in its simplest form isn't difficult to make. The fun is in the experimenting!
Today there are many recipes 'out there' including apple potato bread which had its origins in Armagh, Northern Ireland, famous for its apple orchards.
Here we will introduce the basic bread, with some ideas for adding some creative Irish flair.
The standard variety of Irish potato bread is made from potato flour and wheat flour, and the ratio between the two different kinds of flour tends to vary.
Our ratio is typically 8 oz. mashed potatoes and then 3 oz. plain flour but this basically comes down to personal preference.
Germany, Peru and Ukraine all have their own types of potato bread as well; however the Irish variety is very popular and is often made into a variety of pastries.
