Here at Irish Expressions and Activities, we believe Irish culture should be experienced - not just 'read about.' Whether you are looking for Irish Sayings, Irish Recipes, Irish Music, Irish Symbols, Irish customs, or Irish landmarks, you will find it here.
We All Have a Unique and Personal "Irish Side."
"LOVE LOVE LOVE this site. It is so informative. I will be married to an Irishman in the very near future and I'm trying to learn as much as I can of his culture. Thank you for this site."
- Stacey from Ontario
Irish Expressions began many years ago as a collection of blessings, sayings, and jokes — the spoken soul of Irish culture. But over the years, it became something more.
Today, Irish Expressions and Activities is a place to discover your Irish side, wherever you are in the world — through food, music, symbols, traditions, and more.
This site offers you a guided experience through the culture, spirit, and joy of Irish life. You could just 'have a look around.' We have hundreds of visitors each day, doing exactly that.
On the other hand, you COULD ...
As I said, this site is about 'doing' not just 'reading.' We want you to have an online experience of Ireland, wherever you are in the world.
So we invite you to take a guided tour of Irish culture. At the end of it, you will receive a free "Irish ID" that beautifully represents your own unique and personal Irish side.
The Irish songs that stick in your head, the Irish sayings that make you smile, the Irish symbols that make you proud, the Irish customs that connect us across generations...
Here's how to do it, step by step.
Hey - it's a journey. We want you to get the most out of it. You will be best prepared to receive your Irish ID if you have first visited EACH of the cultural zones on the itinerary below.
Download the form below (just click on it). Then print it. Then explore the culture zones in any order. Answer the question on the itinerary. Then check the box for that zone and move on. Easy peasy.
Now, you may be asking "Do I really have to go to all that trouble?"
Nope.
If you wanted to, you could simply jump ahead, finish our short, fun quiz and have your ID in your inbox in about 2 minutes and 44 seconds.
OR
You could skip this step entirely and explore the culture zones on your own, without the help of a printed itinerary.
It's totally up to you. We recommend you follow the itinerary. Otherwise, just move on to Step 2!
Explore these areas of Irish culture in any order. Looking for that perfect thing to say at a birthday or retirement party? Check out Irish Sayings. Want to sing along with an Irish pub song? Irish Songs. Want an idea for that next tattoo? Try Irish Symbols. You get the idea.
Each cultural zone ends with a short, fun quiz with picture and fun facts about Irish culture and customs. These quizzes will help you re-discover your Irish side through memorable images and fun facts.
Before you finish this step, we highly recommend you make a choice... What is your favorite expression from this zone? What is your favorite saying? Symbol? Song? You get the idea.
It's not absolutely necessary, but it WILL make getting your Irish ID MUCH easier. Just trust us on this one.
Yeah, yeah ... you could just skip to this step and avoid all the trouble of printing, exploring, checking boxes, etc. etc.
But what fun would that be?
Ok, I admit, it will be fun either way. But it will be MORE fun if you take the full journey. Trust me.
That said, if you want to jump ahead, here is the link to "How Well Do You Know Your Irish Stuff?" Once you have completed it you will have immediate access to your unique and personal Irish ID.
And THAT my friend will unlock all sorts of additional benefits for you. I can't wait to share them with you.
Ready? Let's go!
Ireland is a magical place, with fascinating customs and a long, storied history. There is a lot to see and do, so take your time. If you run into any questions or problems, don't hesitate to reach out to our support team here.
But most of all, enjoy the trip! While I highly recommend a personal visit to the 'real' Emerald Isle when you are able (and we can help you with that!) your virtual tour of Irish culture is the next best thing to being there. Keep me posted on your progress!
